Suki Regoni Paramedic Scholarship
Funded through LaShay D. Harris, Rochester City Council Vice President, the Suki Regoni Paramedic Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students pursuing paramedic training to stimulate and support continued recruitment to the paramedic profession.
Paramedic Suki Regoni held the distinction of being Monroe County’s first Latina Paramedic. She was not only an advanced healthcare provider, but also an educator in the field of EMS and community health. Suki’s knowledge, street smarts, and wisdom left a lasting impact on numerous EMTs and paramedics who had the privilege of working with her during the George T. Heisel era at National Ambulance. Her expertise and dedication earned her the respect of her peers in the EMS community, as well as nurses, doctors, and the patients she cared for. Suki also served as the president of SEIU 200-United, the only EMS labor union in Monroe County. Renowned columnist Bob Lonsberry of the Democrat and Chronicle once wrote, “Suki understood the value of life, and people recognized her compassion and infectious laughter.”
Suki’s influence extended beyond her professional achievements. The Suki Regoni Golf Tournament, established in 1993 following her untimely passing, became a source of inspiration for many. The tournament aimed to raise funds for scholarships benefiting EMS providers. This year, there has been a revival in the funding for the scholarship program. It will now support three awards annually for the next four years, ensuring that Suki’s legacy continues to empower and support future EMS providers.
