The Hally and Van Vessem Family Nursing Scholarship Fund

This endowment was established in 2024 by Terry and Christopher Van Vessem ‘83 in honor of Christopher’s grandmother Mary Whaley Hally and mother Harriet Hally Van Vessem, both lifelong professional educators whose guidance and generosity made it possible for many family members to attend MCC and other colleges.

Mary Hally graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth in 1920 and embarked on a career teaching high school Latin and French. In her later years, she was a certified guidance counselor. Her daughter Harriet Van Vessem attended the University of Rochester and studied education, which she practiced for the first half of her career. In 1984, she graduated from MCC with a nursing degree and enjoyed her second career working as an RN at Rochester Psychiatric Center.
