The O'Hanlon Family First Responders Scholarship

The O'Hanlon Family First Responders Scholarship

In 2007 the O’Hanlon Family announced the formation of an endowment to fund The O’Hanlon Family First Responders Scholarship in memoriam of Cecelia Noel O’Hanlon and John Joseph O’Hanlon.

The goal was to support future students and communities of first responders. For over 120 years, the O’Hanlon family has given in service to their communities and has been dedicated to volunteerism. The O’Hanlon family has had a deep legacy of community service that includes a fireman (50+yrs.) a paramedic, a nurse (25+ yrs.), and a police officer/U.S.M.C. (20+yrs.), a nurse/caregiver (30+yrs), and numerous civic boards, committees, and commissions.

Help keep Cecelia’s and Johns’ memory alive by making a gift to the O’Hanlon Family First Responders Scholarship.
Please make your memorial gift online at Give Now. If you wish to make a gift by phone, please call 585.685.6020 or mailing a check to the MCC Foundation, 1000 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14623.

Impact

Rafael Ortega is the 2019 recipient of the scholarship and wrote: “Thank you so much for awarding this very generous scholarship to me. I was very happy and appreciative to learn that I was selected. Through this, I will be able to focus more on my academics and finish up my schooling as a paramedic. I plan to continue on as a physician to further impact my community. Thanks to you, I am one step closer to my goal.”

2021 UPDATE from Rafael: I graduated from the MCC paramedic program in August of 2019. I also received my bachelors in biomedical sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology in May of 2019. I am currently a 3rd year medical student at the University of Rochester School of Medicine on track for graduation in May of 2023. I am hoping to specialize in emergency medicine. I still work as a paramedic at the Northeast Quadrant Advanced Life Support in Webster on the weekends and it has greatly helped my patient care both in and out of the hospital. I am also serving as a medical officer in the New York Army National Guard. In my limited free time, I enjoy going back to the MCC paramedic program helping out as a lab instructor, volunteering for the Rochester American Red Cross, and exercising.
