Corning Inc. ORESU Dental Hygiene Education Scholarship

The Corning Inc. ORESU Dental Hygiene Education Scholarship is a renewable, merit-based award sponsored by Corning’s Office of Racial Equality and Social Unity (ORESU). The scholarship covers tuition (fall and spring semesters), fees, and textbooks/supplies in the SUNY Monroe Community College (SUNY MCC) Dental Hygiene AAS program, either through completion of the Dental Hygiene AAS degree or up to four semesters in the Dental Hygiene AAS program, whichever comes first. It is open to incoming and returning dental hygiene students. Two (2) Corning, Inc. ORESU Dental Hygiene Education Scholarships are offered to students in SUNY MCC’s Dental Hygiene AAS programs specifically, to high-performing students who are from racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in health-related sciences. Underrepresented minorities in health-related sciences are defined by the National Institutes of Health as Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders.

Student Eligibility Requirements:

• Is accepted into or currently enrolled in SUNY MCC’s Dental Hygiene Education Program.
• Is from an underrepresented minority group as defined above.
• Has a 2.75 GPA or higher
• Has submitted a FAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year.
• Is willing to enter into Service Obligation Scholarship Agreement with Corning Incorporated that states, “within three (3) months of successful completion of SUNY MCC’s Dental Hygiene Prelicensure Program, the scholar agrees to diligently seek and accept full-time employment and to begin providing full-time dental hygiene services in a hospital system or dental provider’s office in Monroe, Orleans, Ontario Counties.”
• Maintains a 3.0 GPA at SUNY MCC, as evidenced by a school transcript or other official College document. This document should reflect the overall average as of the end of the Spring semester.
• Submits an application package via the MCC Scholarship Website no later than August 15, 2024.

• Unofficial SUNY MCC transcript that includes overall GPA or High School transcript for incoming students.
• Typed personal statement/essay in 12-point font with a maximum of 500 words.
• Essay contents should include:
  Corning Inc. ORESU Dental Hygiene Education Scholarship will allow me to (discuss career goals, area of focus, and how you will improve the dental, general health and social conditions of underrepresented minorities in this region.)
