Anna C. Price Poetry Scholarship
The Anna C. Price Poetry Scholarship is given each year to a student who shows promise as a writer, who has a love for poetry, who understands the power of language.
ELIGIBILITY
1.) Must be registered at MCC during the academic year (Fall and/or Spring semester) in which the submission is received. Students who submit a poem in the Fall do not need to be registered in the Spring to receive the award.
Guidelines for poem submission:
Students applying for this award need to submit BOTH of the following:
- A single, original poem they have written (no more than 100 lines)
- A 500-word reflection essay they have written about what poetry means to them. This might be a reflection about what prompted them to write the poem they are submitting or it might be a reflection about why writing poetry is important to them.
At the top of the reflection essay, they should include a word count for the essay, as well as their name, major, and a list of the creative writing classes they have taken, including semester and year.
Please note that failure to include these items will disqualify your entry. Please also note that any evidence of AI-generated text will also disqualify your entry.
Thank you for applying to the Anna C. Price Poetry Scholarship. We look forward to reading it. Decisions will be made by mid-April. You should receive a notification by late April. If you don’t hear from us by the end of April, feel free to send a follow-up email to Elizabeth Johnston at ejohnston@monroecc.edu. In the mean time, happy writing.
