The Dr. Christopher Shields Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Christopher Shields Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in honor of a proud Monroe Community College graduate whose education at MCC launched a distinguished 45-year career as an Emergency Medicine physician in New York City. From an early age, Chris Shields was drawn to helping others. Known throughout his career for his skill, compassion, and humor, he treated every patient with dignity and respect, believing deeply that medicine was first and foremost a human endeavor. Equally committed to education, he mentored generations of medical residents and took great pride in guiding young people toward meaningful careers of service. Chris often credited Monroe Community College as the foundation of his academic and professional journey. This scholarship honors his belief in accessible education and is intended to support MCC students who demonstrate compassion, resilience, curiosity, and a commitment to helping others—values that defined both his life and his work. Through this scholarship, Dr. Shields’s legacy lives on in the students who follow their own paths of service, learning, and impact.

ELIGIBILITY

1.) Full or part-time students.
2.) Demonstrated financial need.
3.) Minimum GPA of 2.0 or better.
